NMIX 6111E New Media Design

New Media Design gave me a deeper understanding of UX and UI design. The class explored traditional graphic design topics, such as layout, composition, imagery, and typography, as it built a foundational knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud. Through three collaborative projects, I explored modern UX design principles and enhanced my coding and design thinking skills via software such as Adobe XD, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.

Upcycled Style

For our final project, we were tasked with creating a brand that targets a real world problem. My group decided to create Upcycled Style which promotes upcycling clothing. Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming byproducts or unwanted products into new materials perceived to be of greater quality. In this case, we’re making upcycling clothes trendy!

As the lead designer on this project, I created everything from the brand guide to the app itself. I strengthened my copywriting and design skills by creating an Instagram account for the brand and learned how to use Adobe XD to design the app demo. This project made me confident in my ability to design for a user and allowed me to tie together my marketing, design, and journalism skills in a creative way.

App Walkthrough

The Upcycled Style app shows users where they can donate their clothes and serves as a way for them to keep track of their donations. People will be more motivated to donate if we can show them just how much they’re helping the environment with each donation. Did you know that it takes over 650 gallons of water to make one new cotton t-shirt?
